Threat to the National
Infrastructure
In the highly industrialized,
technological age in which we live, the United States has developed
a tremendously complex interrelationship of manufacturing, energy,
finance, and transportation systems that is now generally described
as our "infrastructure." The components which make
up this infrastructure are important because our society has
come to rely so heavily on the services they provide. In
other words, our dependence on these systems is such that any
physical attack or computer (cyber) intrusion would cause widespread
disruption and possibly extreme danger.
The FBI has been given the
primary responsibility for investigating and helping to prevent
such attacks under our jurisdiction in terrorism matters. If
you have information concerning possible conspiracies to attack
or disrupt national infrastructure components, click here to immediately e-mail us.
