Marquette, Michigan – September 22, 2006 – United States Attorney Margaret M. Chiara announced that on September 21, 2006, Yvonne Jeanette Hansen, age 37, of L’Anse, Michigan, was sentenced by Senior United States District Court Judge R. Allan Edgar, to 48 months’ confinement, three years of supervised release, and a special assessment of $100.00. Ms. Hansen was also ordered to pay $1,783 in restitution. On June 9, 2006, Ms. Hansen pled guilty to a Superseding Information charging her with assault resulting in serious bodily injury, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 113(a)(6). The charge stemmed from an incident that occurred on Keweenaw Bay Indian Community lands involving an assault that resulted in a gunshot wound to the victim’s hand. Ms. Chiara expressed her appreciation for the exceptional efforts of Special Agent Leslie Hahn of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, officers of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Police and deputies of the Baraga County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Paul D. Lochner prosecuted this case on behalf of the United States.
