Grand Rapids, Michigan – October 2, 2006 – United States Attorney Margaret M. Chiara announced that Shawn Dewayne Clark, age 26, of Detroit, Michigan, was sentenced today to 84 months in prison for the robbery of the National City Bank at 400 West Crosstown Parkway in Kalamazoo, Michigan on August 12, 2005. The Honorable John Corbett O’Meara, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan, presided over the sentencing. Mr. Clark pled guilty on June 30, 2006 to the sole count of the Indictment, which charged him with bank robbery, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113(a). Mr. Clark was arrested following a high-speed car chase on August 12, 2005, the same day he entered the National City Bank, handed the teller a demand note and took approximately $5,279.00 from the bank. The deposits of National City Bank are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. In addition to the 84-month term of imprisonment, Judge O’Meara ordered Mr. Clark to make restitution to National City Bank in the amount of $2,879.00, the difference between the amount taken and the amount recovered. Judge O’Meara also ordered Mr. Clark to serve a three-year period of supervised release following his prison term. Ms. Chiara expressed her appreciation to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for its work in the case. This case was prosecuted on behalf of the United States of America by Assistant United States Attorney Elisa Castrolugo.
