FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Marquette, Michigan – June 19, 2007 – United States Attorney Charles R. Gross announced today that on June 15, 2007, a criminal complaint was filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan, Northern Division, charging Jerry Jack Hebert, 27, of Leesville, Louisiana, with bank robbery in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113. The charge stems from the June 9, 2007 bank robbery at the Peninsula Bank in Ishpeming, Michigan.

The issuance of the complaint was a result of a joint investigation by the Marquette Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Michigan State Police (MSP), the Ishpeming Police Department, the Ishpeming Township Police Department, the Marquette County Sheriff's Department, and law enforcement agencies in Louisiana. The investigation led law enforcement to identify Hebert as the bank robbery suspect.

Through coordination with the FBI and local authorities in Lousiana and Texas, Hebert was located and arrested on Friday, June 15, 2007, near Houston, Texas. Hebert made his initial appearance in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, on Tuesday, June 19, 2007. It is expected that he will be returned to Michigan in the near future. United States Attorney Gross commended the coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies that resulted in the filing of the charge in this case and the quick arrest of Hebert. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Maarten Vermaat and Paul Lochner of Marquette.

The charge in a complaint is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
