An 18-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department was charged today in relation to his theft of six kilograms of cocaine from the property room of the Detroit Police Department’s Narcotics Section, United States Attorney Stephen J. Murphy announced today. Murphy was joined in the announcement by Detroit Police Chief Ella M. Bully- Cummings and Andrew G. Arena, Special Agent In Charge of the Detroit Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. United States Attorney Stephen J. Murphy said, “These charges are disturbing because they allege theft, illegal drugs, and corruption by a police officer. We continue to work hard to investigate and root out police corruption. I must commend the support of the Detroit Police Department in assisting the FBI in this investigation.” Officer Vincent L. Crockett, 39, of Canton, was indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of possession with intent to distribute six kilograms of cocaine and one count of theft of government property. The offenses are alleged to have occurred in March of this year. If convicted of the narcotics offense, Crockett faces a mandatory minimum of ten years in prison and a maximum of life imprisonment, along with a maximum fine of $4,000,000. The investigation was initiated by members of the Detroit Police Department’s Narcotics Unit and investigated by the Detroit Police Department’s Public Accountability Bureau and the FBI. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys R. Michael Bullotta and Linda Aouate.
