TUESDAY, JANUARY 16, 2008 - GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Thomas Wilfred Wandahsega III, 41, of Wilson, Michigan, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for an assault resulting in serious bodily injury, U.S. Attorney Charles R. Gross announced today. Wandahsega pleaded guilty to the charge, which resulted from his April 2, 2007 attack upon a member of the Hannahville Indian Community. The victim sustained an internal head injury, a broken eye-socket, and a broken nose from the assault. In addition to prison, Chief U.S. District Judge Robert Holmes Bell sentenced Wandahsega to three years of supervised release, mandatory restitution in the amount of $5,984.49, and a $100 special assessment. Wandahsega was prosecuted federally because the assault occurred within the boundaries of the Hannahville Indian Community. The Hannahville Tribal Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Marquette Branch, investigated this matter. The case was prosecuted on behalf of the United States of America by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul Lochner and Jeff J. Davis.
