Jury Finds David Lee Joslin Guilty of Distributing Marijuana in Hannahville-Potawatomi Indian Community
GRAND RAPIDS, MI—David Lee Joslin, 44, of Escanaba, Michigan, was found guilty following a two day jury trial in Marquette, Michigan, of the charge of distribution of marijuana, U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced today.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), together with the Upper Peninsula Straits Enforcement Team (UPSET) and the Hannahville Indian Community created the Upper Peninsula Safe Trails Task Force to investigate violent crime in the Upper Peninsula, including the possession/distribution of controlled substances in violation of federal/tribal/state laws. As part of that investigation, the Safe Trails team with the help of cooperating witnesses made a number of controlled buys wherein the defendant was the distributor and/or was present and aware of the sales. These buys were all recorded by the task force and were of significant importance in aiding the jury in returning a guilty verdict.
Joslin was remanded to the custody of the Attorney General while awaiting sentencing scheduled for October 22, 2009, before U.S. District Judge R. Allan Edgar. Joslin faces a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
U.S. Attorney Davis commended the Upper Peninsula Safe Trails Task Force for their work on the case. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff J. Davis.
