Andrew G. Arena, Special Agent in Charge (SAC), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Detroit, Michigan, announces the arrest today of Marcia Ottoman, age 43, without incident, for violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 912, for Falsely Assuming or Pretending to be an Assistant United States Attorney.
Ottoman was arrested pursuant to a warrant based on a complaint signed April 9, 2007, in the Eastern District of Michigan, Detroit, Michigan, for her involvement in impersonating an Assistant United States Attorney for preparing and sending e-mails and a letter to a third party purportedly prepared by an Assistant United States Attorney.
Ottoman had her initial appearance this afternoon before a United States Magistrate, Detroit, Michigan, and was released on a $10,000.00 unsecured bond. It is anticipated she will have a preliminary hearing on April 30, 2007.
SAC Arena advised, "This type of conduct by an individual impersonating a Federal official undermines the public's trust and confidence in the law enforcement system and will not be tolerated".
